- Snelling was hit by a pitch, got a single to left field, and had one strikeout in 3 PA's. He played the whole game in left field.
- Blackley pitched again today, after appearing on Sunday. He faced four batters in the eighth inning, walking one and retiring the other three.
- Balfour also faced four batters in the eighth inning. He gave up one walk, got 1 k, one groundout and one flyout to get the hold for the Rays, who went on to win 6-2.
A bit of good news for Travis Blackley too. The Phillies have optioned one of his rivals for the bullpen positions to double-A. This leaves Blackley in the running with the non-roster invitee Vic Darensbourg, who appears to be a long shot to win the spot. So, unless the Phils are looking at a trade, it seems Blackley should make his way into the pen for opening day. He is getting a good chance to stake his claim, having pitched in two games within four days. For more discussion on this situation, check out Beerleaguer. Looks like the Phils will be hoping Blackley can cut down on the number of walks he gives up. Still plenty of time left to impress.
